Dear Students,
In order to better organize works about Masters students’ Dissertation projects according to the University’s requirements and practical situation, now we give an official notice of the major deadlines and important matters need attention as follow. Please read carefully and do as required in the future time during your dissertation project.
1. The dissertation presentations will be held on late May, 2015.
2. Students apply to attend the dissertation presentations must hand in the internship manual and report. Otherwise the School can not arrange you to attend the dissertation presentation.
3. All dissertation drafts have to be finished by the 10th March and sent to your supervisors.
4. All dissertation drafts should be finalized by the 3rd April. And on the occasion that your supervisor sends your final paper to shudezyd@163.com, you officially get the approval from your supervisor to apply for the dissertation presentation.

Step one: Coincidence Detection
The research center will finish all the coincidence detection on students’ dissertation papers. According to the current requirement of the School, a result of no more than 25% of coincidence will be regarded as qualified, otherwise the student must rewrite parts of their paper and go through the 2nd round detection before 17:00 on the 6th April. If failed the second coincidence detection, the student will not be approved by the School to attend the dissertation presentation.
Please pay attention that every student will ONLY have two chances to pass the detection. Otherwise further process concerning your dissertation could not be acted upon.
Step two: pre-examination on the dissertation papers
1. Pre-examination on the dissertation papers will be conducted as soon as possible on those passed the coincidence detection.
2. The School will Publish the pre-examination results to students by 17:00 the 20th April.
3. Students whose result of the pre-examination is “needing major adjustment before the dissertation presentation” have to go through the 2nd round examination to be able to attend the dissertation presentation. If supervisor and student have disagreement on weather the students’ paper qualifies for the dissertation presentation, a report on the reason of disagreement could be sent to the research center (by email or phone call). The center could arrange a discussion session with two scholars from the study field to have a second assessment on the paper. Only on the occasion that both scholars agree on approval can the student be able to attend the dissertation presentation.
4. Students whose pre-examination result is “agree for dissertation presentation” or “agree for dissertation after revision” can attend the dissertation presentation. Students should, before the presentation, revise their dissertation papers according to the supervisors and pre-examination experts’ comments.
Step three: expert review on the dissertations
Papers passes the pre-examination will be sent for review by two external scholars.
1. If both scholars disapprove then the dissertation will not be able to apply for presentation.
2. If one of the two scholar approve, then on the proposal of the student, the paper could be sent for a second assessment by another scholar. Weather the dissertation qualifies for presentation will depend on the result of the second assessment.
Step four: “Double-blind Inspection” on the dissertations
All post-graduate students apply for a Masters Degree must participate the Shanghai Masters Students Graduation Dissertation Double Blind Selective Inspection. Students who didn’t register online will be considered as failing the Inspection.
Students who are to attend the dissertation presentations, please draw your double-blind Inspection Number when handing in other required documents.
For those who are chosen for the inspection, please inform the Secretary Office in time.
Step five: application online for attending the dissertation presentations
Students who are to attend the dissertation presentations, please make sure that you login the School’s online educational management system (EMS) and fill in the “dissertation proposal”, “dissertation assessment”, “dissertation presentations”, and “degree application” forms. You should submit the electronic version of your dissertation through the system in required field, double check all the information that you filled in, and print out the forms mentioned above.
Step Six: handing-in your dissertation and required documents for the dissertation presentations

Step seven: submitting the dissertation online
Students passed the dissertation presentations, please submit the electronic version of your dissertation to the library within one week after the presentations.
Step eight: Handing in the paper version of the final draft of your dissertation
Students who passed the dissertation presentation, please hand in 4 copies of your dissertation to the Administration Office within one week after the dissertation presentations for file keep.
For students who are chosen for the double-blind inspection, please hand in one more copies of your dissertation for the inspection (with no personal information about the student or the supervisor on the cover, and no student’s or the supervisor’s name in the “Acknowledgement” section). Meanwhile put the “information sheet of the double-blind inspection of degree dissertations of Shanghai” in your dissertation.
