Liu Yang, is bachelor in diplomacy from China Foreign Affairs University, master in public policy from University of Chicago, and PhD in urban planning from University of Southern California. She is now associate professor in Public Administration and Policy Department of Andrew Young School of Policy Studies in Georgia State University, and PhD Supervisor, in charge of planning and economic development disciplines. Her major research area includes urban policy in China and the US, population mobility and international migration, labor market and employment, urban innovation and entrepreneurship, community and economic development. She published more than 20 articles in English Core Journals, nearly 10 combined chapters and independent reports. Her research received support from HUD, Kauffman Foundation, Peking University-Lincoln Institute, RSA, and some other governments and non-government organizations.

She takes executive editor on Journal of Urban Affairs of Urban Affairs Association and editor on  Regional Studies and Regional Science of Regional Studies Association.
