On the afternoon of 19th June, Doctor Lin Jian Hai (the secretary general of International Monetary Fund) was invited by the SPEA and Shanghai Institute of International Finance Center to come to our school. Doctor Lin Jian Hai made the speech entitled "The Changing Global Economic Landscape: Challenge and Opportunity", for our school’s teachers and students in Administration Building.
Before the speech started, Doctor Lin Jianhai communicated with scholars from financial, economics and public administration area for one hour. Including Professor Yu Wei (the dean of SPEA at SHUFE), Professor Hu Yijian (the dean of IPPG at SHUFE), Professor Chu Minwei (the past president of Shanghai Finance University), Professor Zhao Xiaoju (the executive director of Shanghai Institute of International Finance Center) and dozens of scholars discussed with Doctor Lin Jianhai in terms of economic projection, exchange rate, government debt, capital control and other popular topics. After the discussion, Professor Cong Shuhai (the secretary of school CPC party committee) further communicated with Doctor Lin Jianhai.
Doctor Lin Jianhai was awarded with the Doctorate in International Finance at George Washington University. He used to work at financial sector and academic institution. In 1989, Doctor Lin Jianhai joined the IMF, and from 2012, he started to work as the secretary general of IMF. During the speech, he analyzed the global economic growth, employment, government debt and the inflation and its risks. Then he elaborated the relationship between economic growth rate and economic growth quality. He also analyzed the reform of financial system, non-bank financial activities and how to deal with government debt. Furthermore, Doctor Lin Jianhai analyzed the aggravation of income inequality, the sustainability and inclusivity of economic growth. Finally, Doctor Lin Jianhai introduced the mission and operation situation of IMF and answered students’ questions. Doctor Lin used sufficient data, critical analysis and vivid slides during the speech, which enabled the audience to gain deep knowledge of current situation and prospect of China and global economic growth and exercisable policy instrument.
Professor Yu Wei (the dean of SPEA at SHUFE) hosted the meeting. After the meeting, Professor Hu Yijian (the dean of IPPG at SHUFE) presented a souvenir of SHUFE to Doctor Lin Jianhai on behalf of SHUFE and expressed the expectation of further academic communication.
Scholars out of SHUFE and around 300 journalists from the Xinhua News Agency and other media agencies attended the speech. All seats were occupied and the speech was very successful.
