SPEA Chen Jia Attends American Political Science Association 2016 Annual Meeting

On Nov 2016, SPEA teacher Chen Jia went to America to attend American Political Science Association 2016 Annual Meeting.


America Political Science Association, founded in 1903, is a leading organization in political research and having more than 13000 members in more than 80 countries. With implementation of various projects and services, APSA collected numerous professional and experts and deepened our understanding in politics. APSA held its 112 th annual meeting in Philadelphia, to solve the updated political science problems and explore the 2016 theme --Great reform: Political and our problems of the era.


Teacher Chen shared two papers and received numerous constructive comments. Duke University Professor Timothy Buthe made in-depth comments on Costly Benefits: Autocratic Time Horizon and the Formation of Bilateral Investment Treaties while Utah University Professor Tobias Hoffman commented on Designing Cooperation: Incentive and Screening under Objective Uncertainty. The suggestions focused on application of dyadic date and survival analysis, alternatives of empirical model specification, key assumption of high sensitive impact, model’s generality, and improved research design.

During this conference, Teacher Chen also talked with his tutors and classmates when he studied and worked in America, which laid good foundation for further cooperation. His Tutors David Bearce and Andy Baker conformed the plan to visit SPEA in recent years.
