On the morning of March 31, 2017, the Opening Seminar of NSFC-ESRC Project Financial Trend and Risk of China’s Urban Development, in which SPEA Investment Department Professor Chen Jie take the China Chief Expert while Member of British Academy of Social Science and UCL Planning School Chair Professor Wu Fulong take the British Chief Expert, was held in Room 302 of Phoenix Building in SPEA. Well-known experts from home and abroad in the areas of urban development, real estate and finance gathered together, reviewed carefully on the project plan, and conducted in-depth discussion on Financial Trend and Risk of China’s Urban Development.
Presented experts include Shanghai Municipal Government Consultant and Shanghai Finance Institute Former President Professor Wang Hongwei, Peking University Lincoln Land Center Dean Dr. Liu Zhi, East China Normal University Urban Development Institute Dean Professor Zeng Gang, Renmin University of China Business School Finance Department Professor Kuang Weida, Nankai University Economics Institute Professor Zhou Jingkui and Zhejiang University Management School Finance and Accounting Department Dean Professor Huang Ying. Special guests include R-Quest Finance Partner and Shanghai Thousands of People Plan Expert Dr. Chen Jian, Home-link Institute Dean Dr. Yang Xianling and Shanghai Shuzhe Data Tec President Dr. Tan Jijun. More than 50 members, including SUFE Academic Department Deputy Director Associate Professor Zheng Chunrong, SPEA Deputy Dean Associate Professor Wang Feng, Project team Chief Experts SPEA Professor Chen Jie and UCL Professor Wu Fulong, project team members SUFE Finance School Professor Ding Jianping and Professor Chen Yun, Economics School Economics Department Dean Associate Professor Jin Yu, SPEA Professor Wang Keqiang, Professor Fan Ziying, Associate Professor Yang Ye, Associate Professor Wang Yin， Associate Professor Li Huiping, Associate Professor Ma Zuqi, Dr. Zhang Muyang, Dr. Zong Qingqing, Dr. Deng Xiaoying, and some other teachers and graduates, attended the seminar.
In the first stage, SUFE Academic Department Deputy Director Associate Professor Zheng Chunrong on behalf of SUFE, and SPEA Deputy Dean Associate Professor Wang Feng on behalf of SPEA, made speeches respectively. Deputy Director Zheng Chunrong congratulated the project team, highly recognized the profound meaning, solid foundation and preliminary accumulation of this project, and promoted several suggestions and wishes for further research and management work. Then, Deputy Dean Wang Feng, on behalf of SPEA, extended our warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to presented experts and guests, and expressed that SPEA will fully support the research work of the Project and prepare good conditions for its successful complete.
Then, China Chief Expert Professor Chen Jie made a detailed report on research background, subject definition and selection motivation, key point, difficulty and innovation, general outline and basic content, technical route and research task, research base and investigation arrangement, and expected achievement. British Chief Expert made supplementary and extension on the definition of financialization and financial tools.
The second stage is the expert Q&A and discussion, which is hosted by East China Normal University Urban Development Institute Dean Professor Zeng Gang. Then, the presented experts and guests conducted careful review and discussion on the aspects of definition of financialization, evolution and trends of China’s urban development financialization, the project’s basic idea, key problems, proposed investigation and research design. The expert team highly recognized the project’s meaning and characteristics and promoted several constructive suggestions. Professor Wang Hongwei presented three opinions. Firstly, urban financialization is not only the financialization of urban economic activities, but also the financialization of assets. Secondly, the team should stress theoretical innovation and strive for breakthrough in originality. Thirdly, the research should lay emphasis on the relationship between urban development financialization and urban economy development, and we should improve team construction on related disciplines through this project. Experts expect that, the project team should face the challenge directly, pay attention to multidisciplinary cross of economics, finance and public administration, comprehensively use frontier analysis tools of game theory and system theory, and strive for theoretical innovation and practical guidance on urban development financialization.
In the end, Professor Chen Jie and Professor Wu Fulong, on behalf of the Project Team, extended heartfelt gratitude to the experts and guests, and promised that, the team will fully absorb the suggestions, further concentrate on research, strive for better achievement and some breakthrough in the area of finance trend and risk of China’s urban development, and ensure the successful complete of the project target and task.
