Professor Chen Jie Presents the HS Committee Meeting and the 2017 HSA Annual Conference

On April 4, 2017, SPEA Investment Department Dean and Institute for Real Estate Research Executive Director Professor Chen Jie attended the editorial committee meeting of Housing Studies(SSCI) in York, UK. This is the first time that Professor Chen Jie attended the editorial committee meeting since he was invited to become its committee member at the beginning of this year. The new committee consists of 2 Managing Editors, 7 section Editors, 9 Executive Editors, who are well-known Scholars in Housing Research from universities of UK, US, Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Hong Kong, and China Mainland. Professor Chen Jie is one of the Executive Editors, and the only member who comes from China Mainland in the committee history. In the meeting, the committee discussed current status, position under new situation, and development strategy to expand impact, and Professor Chen Jie shared his opinions and suggestions.

 

Housing Studies founded in 1986 and has a history of more than 30 years. Its Impact Factor of 2015 is 1.309, ranked top in SSCI Urban Research Journals. In its more than 30 years’ history, Housing Studies gradually became one of the most well-known and authoritative comprehensive academic journal in international housing area. With outstanding features of cross-discipline, international and frontier, Housing Studies accepted papers with background of Economics, Politics, Sociology, Geography, Planning, History, and Philosophy, stressed on theory and policy, and more than half of its papers contained rich quantitative analysis. Housing Studies holds strict requirement on the paper quality, and its papers are the updated and best in its area. Professor Chen Jie published 4 papers as first author in Housing Studies and three of them are related to China housing problems and housing policy. Housing Studies publishes 8 issues each year and 6 paper each issue, with its 2016 contribution rate under 19%. The contribution number from China Mainland surged in recent years, but the contribution rate of 2016 is 10%, which is still low. Among the 48 papers published in Housing Studies iin 2016, only 2 papers is related to China Mainland, which is out of proportion with the high attention on China Housing Issues. The Editorial Committee specially discussed on how to increase excellent papers from China Mainland, and Professor Chen Jie also shared several opinions and suggestions.

 

After the committee meeting, on April 5 to 6, entrusted by Housing Studies, Professor Chen Jie attended the 2017 Annual Conference of Housing Studies Association as an Observer in University of York. He communicated with scholars and professionals from the whole world, and made a report on his Paper cooperated with grade 1 PhD student Wang Wei Economic incentive and settlement intentions of rural migrants: Counterfactual analysis approach for the case of China, which received positive feedback from presented scholars.

 

Be selected to the Editorial Committee of Housing Studies, is the second time that Professor Chen Jie entering the core layer of International authoritative academic journal since he was selected to the committee of Urban Studies(SSCI) in 2016, reflecting the rising momentum of China Mainland in the research of urban and housing in international academic circle. Through the annual committee meeting and daily editorial activities, Professor Chen Jie showed the rising competence of China Mainland especially SUFE in the research area of urban and housing, which helps domestic scholars understand frontier research in international housing area, and strengthened the foundation of in-depth exchange and mutual cooperation between domestic academic circle and international academic circle.
