On the afternoon of May 16, SPEA Teaching Workshop Lecture Series--Experience on Professional Courses Preparation II was held in room 302 in Phoenix Building. The lecture was hosted by SPEA Dean Assistant Zhang Yi while Shanghai Young Teacher Teaching Competition First Prize Winner and SUFE Mathematics School Associate Chair Professor Yang Shihai took the Speaker role. More than 20 SPEA teachers listened to the lecture.
Before the lecture, Zhang Yi, on behalf of SPEA, extended the welcome and thanks to Yang Shihai. He generally introduced the teaching experience and achievements of Yang and encouraged SPEA teachers to active interact with Yang Shihai.
Teacher Yang extended his gratitude of our invitation. He first shared the six quotes, from National Teacher Outstanding Individual, Shanghai Good Teacher Best Ten, Shanghai Jiaotong University Qiu Zhaotai, clarify the problem in suitable length; stimulate thinking with connection and reference; cultivate interest through seeking light-spot; encourage participation with tricky situation; leave space for further exploration; communicate and get feedback. These simple words have infinite content.
Then, he introduced his teaching experience from subject import and case arrangement. The first is to use suspense in subject import. He made an example of mathematics theorem and limit of sequence, which impressed students a lot. The second is to carefully arrange the case. Yang suggested to closely relate to daily life, arrange multi-layers cases, let students think and solve the problems one by one and step by step, fully reflected the order and constant of teaching process. The cases of Afghanistan's magic and Pancake theorem attracted the students and teachers and showed the joy of teaching and beauty of Math.
Then, Yang Shihai shared his material database which brought inspiration to SPEA teachers. Several SPEA Teachers communicated with Yang on teaching and learning, and course-ware making. At the end, the audiences repaid the splendid lecture with heated applause.
