On July14, 2017, Mehmet SerkanTosun, a dean from University of Nevada, Reno, came to SPEA and gave a public lecture on Political Economy of Aging and Fiscal Policy. SPEA;s Deputy Dean Fu Wenlin, some teachers, such as Tian Liu, Chen Jia and graduate students attended the lecture.

UNR locates at the junction of California and Nevada. It has ranked the US Best Colleges for 13 years, and is honored Level 1 academic research organization evaluated by American Association of University Professors. Professor Mehmet SerkanTosun is also Barbara Smith Campbell Outstanding Professor. He acquired Ph.D from economic department of Syracuse University Maxwell college. He currently works as a researcher of German Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA), a researcher of Oxford Institute to research population aging, a researcher of Research Forum in Arab states & Iran & Turkey. His research interest includes Public Economics(Public Finance), Population Economics ,Population Statistics, Political Economics, Growth and regional Economics.

The lecture explains profound theories in simple words. It talks on intergenerational conflict in public project selection under the background of population agingIt introduces political parameter into intergenerational overlapping model, uses middleman vote theory to explain and simulates the difference on public policy support brought by demographic change.
After the lecture, Professor Mehmet SerkanTosun and Deputy Dean Fu Wenlin had a heated academic exchangesBoth parties expected on further visiting and exchange, and wished breakthrough in future cooperation.
