SWUFE Prof. Feng Xunan’s Lecture Brief

On the afternoon of Sept. 25, 2017, Professor Feng Xunan, Professor of School of Finance and PhD Supervisor from Southwest University of Finance and Economics, invited by SUFE Investment Dept. Director Professor Chen Jie, made a lecture on Living through the Great Chinese Famine: Early-Life Experiences and Managerial Decisions in room 202 in Phoenix building. The lecture was hosted by Professor Chen Jie, while Investment Dept. Associate Professor Gao Xiaohui, Associate Professor Shen Hong, Associate Professor Ma Zuqi, Doctor Zheng Rui, Doctor Ye Fang, Doctor Zong Qingqing, Doctor Guo Feng, Public Finance Dept. Doctor Gao Lin, Shanghai Development Research Institute Post-doctor Zhou Qian, and some PhD students attended the lecture.

 


Professor Feng Xunan first introduced current researches on the relation between managers’ personal characteristics and corporate decision, and pointed out that they creatively level up the relation discussion to causality test. He took the Great Chinese Famine as an example to explore the influence of personal experience on managerial decisions. It shows that, managers with famine experience is more likely to choose conservative behavior on finance and investment, is unlikely to conduct immoral doing, and acquire better corporate performance in economic depression. Then, they came to the conclusion that major personal experience has crucial impact on managerial decisions. The lecture ended after a heated discussion.

 


Feng Xunan, Professor and PhD Supervisor in School of Finance of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, gained Finance PhD from Peking University in 2009. He published several papers as first author or independent author in Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Comparative Economics, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Management World, China Economic Quarterly, Journal of Financial Research. He also hosted one general program and one youth program of National Nature Science Foundation.
