After celebrating the New Year, our SPEA Alumni Association and its SUFE Humanities Reading Group held their first offline activity.
On the evening of January 11, we were pleased to invite Anhui Administrative Academy Professor Chen Faxiang to introduce Culture of Hui Merchants. Professor Chen used to study Economics in SUFE in 1987, but he turned to literature during the following 20 years of work. He takes advocating the renaissance of traditional culture as his own responsibility, and is addicted to the research of Hui Culture. His exploration in Hui-Hang Road is far more than expected.
Hui Merchants and Jin Merchants are two of the top 10 Merchants groups in China, and a number of giant merchants who are represented by Hu Xueyan emerged among them. Professor Chen started from talking about the geography, culture and history of Huizhou, and then analyzed survival environment and origin of Hui Merchants. Besides, he made a deep analysis on Hui Merchants’ management ideas and spirits which have been inheriting for hundreds of years, to provide a kind of reference for everyone.
The lecture was held in Phoenix Building, and about fifty alumni and students attended the activity. Time flowed fly, and two-and-half-hour-lecture was coming to end quickly. The teaching style of professor Chen was content-rich, lively and interesting, so the lecture was quite popular among the students and benefited everyone quite a lot.
After the lecture, Fang Fang who is the secretary of Party committee in SPEA granted awards to the excellent writers and activists in SUFE Humanities Reading Group in 2016. (The Awarding List will be announced in other articles.)
Secretary Fang and SPEA Alumni Association President Zhou Weiming made warm conclusions. They called on everyone to take an active part in activities to make our contributions to the 100 th anniversary of SUFE. Finally, wish all the alumni all the best and a happy new year.
