Find peace in blooming flowers, Talk future with experienced alumni

At 19:00 on May 17, 2017, SPEA Alumni Salon and SPEA Alumni Association Career Development Center Inauguration Ceremony was held in room 302 in phoenix building as planed. We are very honored to invite four graduated alumni Yang Jing, Yan Lan, Wang Mi, Liu Dawei to share with us the things you should know to find a job.

 


SUFE Career Instruction Center Director Chu Hua, SPEA Party Secretary Fang Fang, Vice Secretary Zhou Qiao, SPEA Alumni Association President Zhou Weiming, Vice President and Vice Secretary General Zhang Dawei presented the activity.

 

The activity was hosted by Zhang Dawei from 1999 Public Finance Class. He joined SPD Bank after master graduation in 2006, currently work on secondment in Shanghai Municipal Finance Work Party Committee, takes Shanghai Municipal Finance League Work Committee Secretary and Shanghai Municipal Finance Youth Association Secretary General. Before the Salon, Zhang Dawei introduced the purpose, tasks and plans of Career Development Center, Director Chu Hua and President Zhou Weiming made speeches respectively, and Secretary Fang Fang unveiled the nameplate together with the alumni.

 

After the brief introduction of the guests by Zhang Dawei, the four alumni began to share their experience and feelings in finding a job.   

 


The first speaker is Yang Jing, the 1994 Taxation student and currently Shanghai municipal Taxation Bureau Party Office Vice Director. She joined tax bureau after graduation, and took Tax bureau Pudong Office League Committee Secretary and Director, Municipal office league committee secretary. Yang Jing shared her experience in tax bureau. In her opinion, this job is free for both body and mind, provides professional dignity, and contains cohesive force.

 


The second speaker is Yan Lan, who is also the 1994 taxation student. After graduated in 1998, she joined Shanghai Municipal Tax Bureau External Tax Branch and the sixth Auditing Bureau, taking business work and league branch secretary. She left tax bureau in 2002, and worked in tax department in several Top 500 companies like BP and Phillips, accumulated rich tax practice experience and multinational corporate tax management experience. She joined Unilever as North Asia Senior Tax Director in 2013, and is responsible for the tax issues in China mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. Yan Lan mentioned that, the first job is quite important, because students could gain geometric growth with the combination of professional courses and practice accumulation. Since there’s big difference between foreign enterprises and government offices in workload and pressure, we should find the appropriate career path for ourselves, and take consideration of life goals in different stages.

 


The third speaker is Wang Mi, the monitor of 1994 State Assets Management class and student union president. He joined Changning SASAC and took office dean in 1998. He left to business area in 2007 and entered insurance industry in 2011, and currently Minya insurance brokers limited Shanghai branch Deputy GM. Wang Mi discussed the important courses in campus and summarized that campus study is a foundation for work and further study. He also believed that economic courses is important for they will improve our thinking and analyzing ability while math is also important for it will improve our logic ability and initiative. The presented students benefited a lot.

 


The last speaker is Liu Dawei. He began his MBA program in W. P. Carey School of Business in 2002 when he graduated in taxation. He joined Shanghai Pharmaceuticals in 2002 and currently takes VP and Board Secretary, and takes part-time director in SIIC Finance Company, Shanghai Goodhealth Capital, Shanghai Healthcare Industry Fund, and Shanghai Lianyi Investment. As ex-member of SPEA football team, Liu Dawei encourages students to make effort to join all kinds of organizations and activities, in order to improve EQ and communication ability and to know more about oneself. In addition, he also lays emphasis on self-confidence, effective study method, self appearance, which will help a lot in future interview and career.

 

In the Q&A section, the four speakers patiently help a sophomore on his queries and detailed analyzed the crucial reference of interviews. They also answered the questions one by one on emotion, study, and life.

 

After two and a half hours’ fierce discuss and sharing, the Alumni Salon ended successfully. All the presented students gained a lot in their career plan. In the future Series Salons, we will provide more information and instructions on career development and plan, prepare students with more knowledge on job market and society, and help students improve self ability and prepare for their careers.
