It is an important feature for Master Students of Taxation to utilize outside-school practice base conducting on-the-spot teaching practice activity. In the early morning of 18th April, led by their teachers, 54 postgraduate students in Taxation of Class 2013 in the School of Public Economics and Administration took the high-speed rail to Changzhou city, Jiangsu Province to attend a one-day on-the-spot teaching practice activity. This activity was greatly supported by Changzhou Administration Service Center and Changzhou Local Tax Bureau.
In the morning, the students visited the great hall of National & Local Tax which located in Changzhou Administration Service Center. Guided by the announcer, the students had an overview of the flow of tax service in each window one by one. Officials’ experienced service skill, enthusiastic service attitudes and effective information-based service process had left all the students and supervisors deep impression. After that, leaders of Changzhou Administration Service Center and Changzhou Local Tax Bureau had a meeting with the students and teachers. Director Chen of the center and the Deputy Director General Liu gave them a very detailed introduction of Changzhou’s humanity and history, the construction process of the Administration Service Center, the administration system and main functions of the center. In this meeting, the students knew directly about the government administration service process and the idea of management. They felt that the service efficiency has been improved through the changing of government function. At the same time, this activity greatly provoked students’ enthusiasm to devote themselves into the civil servant team and the career of tax administration.
In the afternoon, the students and teachers arrived at Changzhou Local Tax Bureau and communicated with the leaders of the bureau and some persons in charge of business. After watching the video of building up the programme of Home of Taxpayer in Changzhou, our outsourced supervisor, Director General QIAN Junwen gave a wonderful lecture about statutory taxation, construction of tax system and taxation reformation. He also expressed his high expectation for the students who need to study very hard, strengthen the theory study and finally apply knowledge to practice. When all activities finished, the students had very active interaction with superiors of the bureau. Director Qian not only answered students’ questions, but also gave lots of examples which made them know more clearly about those issues.
In this teaching practice, students not only gained the happiness of apply knowledge to practice from this teaching practice activity, but also strengthen the friendship between each other. All of them had a transparent understanding of specific tasks in basic tax bureau by visiting Changzhou Local Tax Bureau. Even though the time was limited, abundant practice tasks and the communication with tax officials face-to-face left every student deep impression. This activity was a big success which laid good foundation for these postgraduates in their following courses and practice activities. Students had new direction in their personal career portfolio from this activity.
