On April 23, 2017, the Happy Reading to the Dream Conference, jointly organized by SUFE Library, SUFE Alumni Association and SPEA Student Union, was successfully held in the 7 th floor of SUFE library.
The activity kicked off at 2:00. The host Dr. Liu Jintao made introduction on presented guests which included SUFE Curator and SPEA Professor Zhu Weiqun, SPEA Alumni Association President Zhou Weiming, Vice Secretary General Ms. Wu Yongmei, SPEA Associate Professor Zeng Junping.

In the first section, Ms. Wu Yongmei introduced the application process and schedule of “SUFE Love, Poet Compete” Poem Writing and Reading Contest. Melody Wu said, Read three hundred poems and you will become a poet. She appealed to everyone to actively participate in the contest and aroused their interest.

Then, SPEA sophomore Wu Xiaochan recalled the SPEA Happy Reading Series Activities. The Activity is held every year by SPEA Student Union, providing a reading and sharing platform for SUFEers enjoying spiritual sustenance and constructing literati backbone. She also shared that SUFEers should insist on School Motto “Be virtuous and learned”, and advocated to read more books, read good books and love reading.

The Happy Reading to the Dream Activity came to a climax with the reading section.
Reading Classics
The first guest Mr. Zhou Weiming read Jonathan Livingston Seagull with his full sound line. His voice moved everyone and he said this article could inspire idea of freedom.
Curator Zhu Weiqun read Moonlight over the Lotus Pond in a comfortable and slow voice. Although this article is quite popular, Curator Zhu displayed a special and refreshing feeling.
Ms. Long Yingtai’s A Long Gaze is a deep, sorrow and beautiful article, and is full of love through Ms. Ji Yanshu’s reading, who is former Shanghai TV Host and had special and profound experience.

Reading Originals
In a society of information explosion, original is more than precious. The Huaxin Tech Board Secretary Ms. Lu Xu, SPEA 86 Alumna Zheng Shuzhen, and fresh student Huang Tao were invited to read their original works.
Ms. Lu Xu’s modern poem “Love brings us together” is harmonious and full of love and expectation to her child. Ms. Zheng Shuzhen’s Red Scarf expressed her gratitude to Alma Mater. Huang Tao’s A City has a deep homeland feeling and displayed the desire to homeland of wandering students.

Students Reading
Lots of SUFEers love reading. Sophomore Ji Shuimei read Possibilities, Li Minjie read The Brothers Karamazov(excerpt), and Wang Siyi read The 36 Big Issues. Their recitations were cadenced and rich in feeling.


In the fourth section of experience sharing, Zhu Weiqun talked about Tolerance and Freedom he read in 2016, thought that individual should be tolerant to life, and expected that students could read more books on achievement summary of human civilization and exploration to the future.
In the end, the host asked the guests to recommend a book. Curator Zhu Weiqun recommends The Wealth of Nations, through which we could enhance understanding on economics and increase knowledge on historical and social development. Zeng Junping recommends Free Markets and Countries, expecting readers transfer their concerns from economics to people, from social result to market regulation.
Zhu Weiqun, Zeng Junping and Zhang Feng communicated with the students and answered their questions.
Reading is a kind of life. A life with reading is totally different with the other. There is big barrier and gap between the two. In one side, birds are flying long grass and flowers are blooming like a piece of brocade, while in the other, bleak and desolate.
In the wonderful Spring, let’s read poems. On April 23, the World Book Day, with opportunity of this activity, we are creating Happy Reading Campus atmosphere and social atmosphere, adding scholarly smell to the 100 th anniversary of SUFE.
