Outstanding SPEA Students Visit Hitotsubashi University in Japan

During Nov.17th to Nov.22th of 2016, five outstanding SPEA students Lu Peiyao, Peng Yishu, Dong Shuo, Sheng Lingyu and Xie Liangjie, led by deputy Party Secretary Fang Hui, visited Hitotsubashi University in Japan. They listened to series lectures from Japanese economy academic and professional fields, had heated exchange and discussion with members from Asian Economic and Financial Study Association and students from Hitotsubashi University on Chinese and Japanese economic hot issues, deepened the understanding on Japanese economy and society and strengthened the communication and exchange with students from Hitotsubashi University.

 


During the visit, our students had listened to five high-quality lectures. Mr. Saito Kimyoshi, director of Asian Economic and Financial Study Association gave a lecture named On the light and shadow of Japanese industrial development——the historical evolution. He started from the origin of Japanese modernization, and introduced important figures during Japanese modernization process and the effects that Japanese family business groups had on the industrial development. Besides, he concluded the advantages like the light and disadvantages like the shadow of Japanese industry as well as the opportunities and challenges Japanese industry faces in the new period, presenting a complete and rich Japanese industry development prospect for the students.

 


Mr. Saito Yuichi, director of Asian Economic and Financial Study Association and the prior executive director of HSBC Securities, gave a lecture named Economic and Financial System in Current Japan. He used large numbers of data and intuitive charts to explain the current economic situation in Japan. Besides, he analyzed the influence that both domestic and international major events brought to Japanese economy, and the corresponding policies Japanese government took. He also introduced the related problems and challenges of the aging society in Japan, bringing a lot of inspiration and reference.

 


Mr. Yamada Harunobu, the prior Japanese representative of HSBC, shared his life experiences and insights and analyzed the character and abilities needed under the new situation in twenty-first century. The guidance and enlightenment were full of philosophy of life, just like a baptism of the soul, and everyone learned a lot.

 


Mr. Nakamura Masato, the prior managing director of JFE Steel Corporation and professor from University of Tokyo, brought a lecture named Harvard research on multinational enterprises under the uncertain age. He used the Harvard research method to analyze the characteristics of successful multinational companies in the quickly changing twenty-first century, gave some examples of successful multinational companies, and summarized the secrets of multinational enterprises’ success. He believes that Japanese steel industry is faced with challenges and SPEA students discussed with him about the phenomenon of the steel industry.

 


Mr. Itou, consultant from Green Space Securities, gave a lecture named the world economic trends after the United States’ presidential election and economic trends in Japan and China. He analyzed the influence that American election has on Japanese and Chinese economy, and he also analyzed the economic trends in Japan and China in the future.

 


In addition to lectures, representative students from SPEA of SUFE, students from Hitotsubashi University and students from Renmin University of China who were also invited to visit Japan gave presentations in English about Chinese and Japanese economic and social hot issues respectively, and all students got communication and interaction in English as well. Lu Peiyao and Peng Yishu of grade 2013 from SPEA chose Chinese commercial banks’ development as the theme, introduced and presented the historical and current situation of Chinese commercial banks. Sheng Lingyu, Xie Liang and Dong Shuo of grade 2014 from SPEA chose one of the hot topics in Chinese economy——the shadow banking. They introduced the origin of the shadow banking, the current situation and the reasons of the rapid development of shadow banking in China. And they also raised some solutions based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages. These two themes aroused strong interests of teachers and other students on the spot, and SPEA student representatives had a warm interaction with other students and the teachers on the spot. SPEA students’ rich extensive professional knowledge, proficient and fluent English, as well as confident presentation won all the teachers’ and students’ praise.

 


Students from Hitotsubashi University and Renmin University of China gave presentation respectively about the history of Japanese commercial banks and the effects of the negative interest rate policy, and the aging problem of Chinese society. And they got interaction with teachers and other students.

 


At the end of the visit, Murata Koji, the vice president of Hitotsubashi University, attended the farewell party and sent his congratulations to the success of this event. And he thinks there are many similarities in professional settings between Hitotsubashi University and SUFE, so it is of important significance of growth and development of young people to regularly hold student exchange visiting events between two universities, which will help deepen mutual understanding and learning.

 


Four-day’s exchange visit was short, but the students increased knowledge, broadened their horizons, made friends and got harvest friendship through this activity, achieving common growth and improvement of Chinese and Japanese students consequently.
