SPEA Students Continue Excellent Performance in 2016 Deloitte Tax Championship

During October 28 to 30, the 2016 Deloitte Tax Championship was held in Guangzhou. SPEA Team with Zhou Yuanxin, Mo Yuelin, Cheng Sizhao, Cheng Mengyao won the Second Place in National Case-study competition, while graduate student He Wenzhe’s Study on Simplify Tax Rates During China’s VAT Reform won Excellent Paper. During the 13 years’ history of this competition, SUFE have won the championship four times in the year of 2004, 2011, 2013, and 2015, and kept the record for most number of titles.

 


Deloitte Tax Championship is a tax competition facing to university students national wide, which was held by Deloitte Tax Firm and Deloitte Tax Research Associate since 2004. In the competition, the case-study competition for undergraduates is to help students apply their knowledge into simulated business case, enhance their professional skills, train all-round quality and develop team spirit through analyzing, considering, stating and presenting tax issues in simulated business case. This championship will cultivate tax professionals with deep sight, creativity and comprehensive knowledge.

 


This time, case-study competition attracted teams from 64 universities. After case analysis report in the morning and tax quiz in the afternoon, 13 teams including SUFE passed the competition and entered into the National Competition. In the national competition of case-study in October 29, SUFE Team continued its excellent performance and entered the extra competition. The extra competition is a new added section that each team should finish case study and prepare presentation in 1.5 hours, give 15-minutes’ presentation and answer questions from the judges, which includes the requirement of using English to present case study and answer questions. The Extra competition was held in the morning of October 30 and was really fierce. Our students won numerous applause with their rich knowledge, rigorous logic, accurate analysis and fluent express, and finally won the second place.

 


This year’s Paper competition received 27 papers from 14 universities, 8 of them entering national competition and 3 of them won Excellent Paper. SPEA graduates submitted 5 papers and 3 of them entered national competition. The Paper Study on Simplify Tax Rates During China’s VAT Reform, written by 2015 MT He Wenzhe and instructed by Professor Hu Yijian, won Excellent Paper.
