On the afternoon of 24th November, 2015, alumni of SPEA, Wu Yongmei (student of Class of 1988 in Finance) and Fu Jin (student of Class of 1997 in Taxation) brought students the lecture of “Reading and Growth of University Students” in room 501 of 2nd teaching building, which attracted nearly one hundred fresher.

Fu Jin shared her inspiration and feelings for reading and growth according to her study and work experience. She said that reading can not only help one grow up and change one’s temperament, but also provide topics in communication and help us find friends like-minded. She hoped students to learn to think by reading, to find our interests by reading, and to begin our career planning by reading so as to do a job which we fond of.

Wu Yongmei shared her life experience and insight. She pointed out the direction that students should follow in the aspects of “the most important content we need to learn during the university time”, “capability and qualification that working place needs but cannot be gained in university” and “university time is the best time when we can establish our own academic system”. She expected students can develop and insist the habit of reading. She told students to read more books, and read good books. She also hoped that students can apply the knowledge in books to practice, act in accordance with knowledge and become a rich and interesting person.

The lecture brought by two alumni benefited students a lot and ended in warm applauds. After the lecture, every student received the book of “History of Science” donated by Humanity Reading Club, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and they need to hand in a book review. This means the start of floating of the donative books.
