On the evening of 22nd October, Professor Li Shan of Beijing Normal University was invited to come to our “Science and Humanity” Forum and brought students the report of "Talking about the Spring and Autumn Hegemony". The report was held in room 302 of the Phoenix Building, hosted by Fang Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party General Branch of the School of Public Economics and Administration, and attracted more than 100 students to attend the report.
Li Shan, Professor of the College of Liberal Arts, Beijing Normal University, doctoral supervisor, whose teachers were well-known scholar Professor Qi Gong and Professor Nie Shiqiao, achieved great success in the history of ancient Chinese literature, the history of Chinese culture, the study of "The Book of Songs", the study of literature in the Pre-Qin and Han Dynasty and other fields. He has published his research monographs of the "the cultural spirit of Book of Songs ", "The Book of Songs analysis of reading", "New notes of the Book of Songs" and other works of "The introduction to Chinese culture" successively. In 2011, he first appeared on the CCTV "Lecture Room", transcribing series of "Five Hegemons in Spring and Autumn", which was widely acclaim.
Professor Li Shan introduced the characteristics of times of "big tilt" in Spring and Autumn Period at first. This period was ceremony disintegration, which could be summed up with “disordered world”, but this "disordered world" was also a “changing world”. During this period , The old order was broken, and the center of history was transferring. He figuratively pointed out the fracture of the tilt in the spring and autumn period, through the analysis and comparison of the two groups of “Zhao Hu and Guan Zhong”, “Xun Xi and Li Ke”; then Professor Li Shan took "The War of Qi Jin An ", “The War of Yan Ling” recorded by “Zuo Zhuan” as examples, to demonstrate the "battle of literati" in the Spring and Autumn hegemony vividly, that is, "he who grow with the ceremony and culture influence, will follow the spirit of war in the battlefield."
The Spring and Autumn Period was a period submerging in turmoil, but also a period when there were the so-called the Lord of the chaos world, who were the famous Five Hegemons in Spring and Autumn of Chinese history: Duke Huan of Qi, Prince Wen of Jin, Duke Xiang of Song, Duke Mu of Qin, King Zhuang of Chu. Then, Professor Li Shan focused on Duke Huan of Qi and Guan Zhong these two historical figures to start, described the cooperation between the Duke Huan of Qi and Guan Zhong, showing Duke Huan of Qi's broad-minded and Guan Zhong's great talent; and he briefly introduced the Prince Wen of Jin’s ruses and cunning, King Zhuang of Chu with an character of resilience, Duke Mu of Qin's persistent ideals and so on.
Professor Li Shan vividly described the culture, customs and social system in the Spring and Autumn Period with the modern language, on the basis of the "Zuo Zhuan", "Historical Records", "Gong Yangzhuan", "Book of Songs" and other authoritative historical materials with the combination of folklore, unofficial history etc., and showed and interpreted the history of the Spring and Autumn in all directions and multi-angles. His vivid narrative, unique perspective and profound analysis, made the whole report full of lively atmosphere, and the students were very enthusiastic and active.
Finally, Professor Li Shan also had an interactive exchange with the students about the appellation of ancient princes and marquises, Confucian evaluation of the Spring and Autumn Period and other issues , which made students benefit a lot. The report ended successfully in the warm applause of the students.
