In the evening of 30rd October, the 4th time of event of “Communicating with the Present Face-to Face” series held by Youth League Committee and Student Union of SPEA took place in room 302 of Phoenix Building. Vice President Liu Lanjuan was invited to give students a report regarding to “The Specialty of Finance and Balanced Development: General Education Reformation and Talents Training in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics” and over 150 students from each department attended this event.
Mrs Liu started from the meaning and origin of general education, and introduced the relationship between general education and first-class universities, the situation of general education in overseas universities and the condition of human quality-oriented education and general education in domestic universities. Then, according to the reality of our university, Mrs Liu introduced the tradition of conducting general education. She pointed out that conducting general education in universities majored in finance and economics is the way back to true university education. General education is not only the foundation of improving the level of talents, but also the most effective way to improve the ability of running a financial college or university. Finally, Mrs Liu introduced the plan and steps of general education reformation, whose main idea is to foster decent personality and promote all-round development, in terms of the reformulation of each program, the improvement of establishing general education courses, reinforcing the practice education link, completion of systematic guarantee and so on.
Centering on this topic, four guest students from different departments and students attending this event had deep communication and discussion with Mrs Liu, regarding to how to design the general education courses, general education courses resources, the construction of internet platform, the utility of giving credits in extracurricular activities and how to foster decent personality. Mrs Liu answered them in an elegant way according to her own education and working experience. She expressed high expectation for students’ study and development, which illuminated students a lot.
At the end of the event, students gave Mrs Liu sketch portrait and autograph album to express their gratitude and best wishes.
After the event, many students left there and communicated with Mrs Liu individually. Mrs Liu gave answers and guidance with patience.
