On Sept. 8 th 2016, SPEA welcomed 248 new undergraduates and 179 postgraduates. So far, all activities of welcoming new students have been finished.
Orientation Guidance System Was Moved Forward by New Media
By the power of internet and new media, orientation work was moved forward a lot. During previous summer vacation, Student Union established QQ chatting group for new students, and gave notices about questions raised, orientation process and cheating prevention. It is convenient for students to know the condition of study and life in school by this chatting group. Since middle of August, official account of Youth League & Student Union push “Meet You Finally in SHUFE” series articles concerning information about SPEA, program introduction, first class and second class study, exchange study, campus life, sport activities and safety education, 8 in all. At the same time, five articles of “Chairman Wishes” gave students best wishes and suggestions about living a meaningful life in university. By the day of orientation, nearly 5000 person-time browsed those articles.
Elaborate Arrangement of Register Place and Warm and Considerate Reception
According to features of each major, students arrange the register place elaborately by their initiative and creation. Photo taking walls and signature board of “Budding Delonix regia Bulids SPEA Dream” was the highest courteous reception and brought them the best wishes. SPEA faculty also made show board which presented all the professors worked and working here. New students would know masters’ demeanor and understand the majors at the time they entered the building. In order to strengthen students’ feel of belongings and recognition, every student received a gift bag with college T-shirt, study materials, and publicity materials, as well as a set of exquisite college badges and metal made bookmark with college badge.
On the scene of orientation, faculty of students affairs and students of Youth league and Student Union gave warm guidance, reception and service which brought freshmen love and passion.
On the afternoon of orientation day, over 100 parents of freshmen attended the parents’ meeting in meeting room 302 of Phoenix Building. Dean of SPEA, Mr. Liu Xiaobing, Assistant Dean of SPEA, Ms. Fang Fang, Vice Secretary of General Party Branch, Ms. Fang Hui and instructor of new students, Mr. Zhang Xu attended the parents’ meeting. They briefly introduced the condition of university and the school, as well as the undergraduate teaching activities. They also communicated deeply with parents on the topic of helping out students live a better life on campus.
Gathering all powers to promote Orientation Education accurately
On the afternoon of September 9 th, 2016, Dean of SPEA, Mr. Liu Xiaobing, Secretary of General Party Branch, Mr. Shen Hui, Deputy Dean of SPEA, Ms. Fang Fang and Mr. Fu Wenlin attended undergraduate student-teacher meeting and postgraduate student-teacher meeting respectively. Both meetings were hosted by Ms. Fang Hui, Vice Secretary of General Party Branch.
Mr. Liu Xiaobing introduced the basic information about our university and school and school characteristics. He pointed out that the idea of SPEA was focusing on nurturing public spirit and social responsibility. The nature of discipline of SPEA requests students to be the one who have stronger public recognition, civil spirit and humanity. He wished all of them be an outstanding SUFE people and accomplish their study successfully.
Mr. Shen Hui presented his welcome and congratulations to all the new comers. He wished students would hold great expectations and dreams, develop wide view and mind, make effort to strengthen public recognition, and perform the public responsibility. At the same time, he emphasized the significance of virtue. He hoped that students learn to be a good person and develop good personality besides study hard.
On behalf of the school faculty, Professor Hu Yijian and Professor Zhu Weiqun met new students in the student-teacher meeting. Mr. Hu firstly shared his feelings about the change of SPEA and the time in recent 30 years. He pointed out that the scale of SPEA become larger, speed of development become quicker, condition of SPEA become better, opportunities become more and more because of the development of time. At the same time, the speed of knowledge-update become quicker, competition become more fierce, pressure become heavier, and risk become higher. All of mentioned above will bring students opportunity and challenge. Therefore, he told new students to catch the chance, keep the spirit of hard working, change the attitude of reactive to active on study and dedicate to improve various abilities and skills. Professor Zhu requested students to pay attention in the respect of changing civilization idea, reconstructing thinking mode and holding public mood.
In the undergraduate student-teacher meeting, Ms. Fang Fang introduced the teaching and course selecting situation in detail, and Head of Teaching Affairs Office, Mr. Liu Jiangqin gave students specific guidance in selecting courses. Senior student of 2013 in Tax, Pan Chen gave the speech on behalf of old students.
In the postgraduate student-teacher meeting, tutor, Prof. Zhu Weiqun requested students not to believe in book only, in teacher only, in power only, and do not touch the bottom line. He stressed the importance of the ability of independent thinking. Vice Dean, Mr. Fu Wenlin gave the introduction of postgraduate school and asked students to obey the academic rules and insist on academic honesty. Ren Yajing, a postgraduate student of 2015 Assets Appraisal and Zhong Lingna, an MD-PhD of 2013 Finance gave helpful advice to new students in the respect of profession, concentration and so on.
From 12th to 20th Sept., we also invited faculty of International Communication Office, Student Affairs Office, Career Center and policeman to give a series of lectures to help new students to adapt the new environment, such as study, exchange study, psychological health, career planning and campus safety.
