Professor Li Deming of Northeast Petroleum University Gave the Report of

In the evening of 3rd November, Professor Li Deming of Northeast Petroleum University was invited to be the speaker of our series event, Science & Humanity Lecture and gave students the report of Pre-Qin Philosophers’ Ideal Personality. This event took place in the Room 302 of Phoenix Building and Secretary of general Party branch of SPEA, Shen Hui as well as over 120 students attended this event. Fang Hui, Vice secretary of general Party branch of SPEA hosted this report.

 

 

 Professor Li started from the features of Chunqiu and Warring States periods. At that time, people did view national rules and etiquette less important and wars happened everywhere. However, at the same time, many officials and rulers respect knowledge and different ideas about how to rule a kingdom appeared. Professor Li introduced the ideas of Confucian School and Taoist School. Then, based on Dao De Jing, Confucian Analects, Mencius and those philosophers’ life stories, Professor Li focused on their ideal personalities. Laozi thought that if people obey the rules of the universe and nature, they can be called holy. Zhuangzhou thought that a true man should talk and behave according to morality. Confucius advocated gentleman should be merciful and love others. Mengzi thought man should be righteous. Meanwhile, according to college students’ current condition, Professor Li put up some suggestions and expectations for students regarding to their all-round quality improvement, humanity spirit and moral characters bringing up.

 

 

Professor Li’s speech was full of the philosophical way of thinking and the glory of the human nature. His humorous and passionate words drew forth students’ applauses. Besides, the communication with students aroused their motivation.

 

 

At the end of the event, many students asked Professor Li questions they interested in and he answered them patiently. The forum ended with students’ warm applause.
